Themes for 2008 Camp Wiyaka has had themes for their weeks for years. This year we thought we would increase the awareness of what those themes are before campers arrive. This would provide campers with the ability to begin thinking of what special items they could bring to make their week even better. Be that a harmonica for "Music Makers" week or some scarves to juggle for "The Circus is Coming" week. The themes are an integral part of each week; activities center around the themes and special "all camp" activities will be planned accordingly. No special items are necessary for attending any week, instead let your imagination be your guide! July 6 - 12, Boys camp, the theme is Superheroes. The world is full of heroes, both real and imagined. Superman, Batman and Mr. Incredible aren't the only heroes we will be looking at. We will investigate local heroes as well, including fire fighters, police officers, state politicians, and members of the United States Military. Everyday your life is touched by heroes - parents, teachers, and coaches. What makes these people heroes? What can we do to thank them? July 13 - 19, co-ed week, the theme is Summer Olympics. The world will be focused on Beijing, China, but at camp our focus will be a little more local. Be at a baseball game, swimming races, or archery competition, camp will be a place full of fun activities. We will start the week with an opening ceremony with each tent representing a "nation" and end with a closing ceremony. We will discover what the Olympics are all about and the joy and excitement that comes from participating in them. July 20 - 26, co-ed week, the theme is The Circus is Coming!. Welcome to the Greatest Show in Richmond, New Hampshire! The Camp Wiyaka Circus is coming. Campers will learn all about clowning around....juggling, clown make-up, balancing acts and more. July 27 - August 2, co-ed week, the theme is Music Makers. This week is dedicated to all things musical. Let the music of nature surround you as we look at every aspect of music and music making. From the creation of instruments to the variety of types of music and how different sounds can affect your mood. August 3 - 9, co-ed week, the theme is The Wonder Years. Camp Wiyaka has been in existence since 1921. Here is our chance to travel through time and look at life over the past 87 years! What games were popular in the 1930's? What music did we listen to in the 1960's? What was fashionable in the 1980's? We will investigate all 87 years and begin dreaming of the future at Camp Wiyaka. Which year will be your favorite? August 10 - 16 , Girls Camp, the theme is World Leaders. Do you think that Queen Amadala and Princess Jasmine are the only female leaders? We will look at Disney's Princesses, as well as a few more real women. Women can be Queens, Prime Ministers, Senators, Governors, Mayors, or even Selectmen. Who would you be if you could be anyone?
